Grammy Award winner Dan Zanes and Haitian-American jazz vocalist Claudia Zanes perform a mix
of old and new songs from near and far in a style that’s been called “All-Ages Social Music.” In other
words, when they perform it’s a party! The selections are drawn from Dan’s celebrated catalogue;
their Kennedy Center commissioned folk opera called Night Train 57; the House Party songbook
published in 2018, and the upcoming Smithsonian / Folkways release “Dan + Claudia Zanes – Let
Love Be Your Guide.”
During these highly interactive shows, the audience is invited to dance and sing along in what might
be called a casual – and subversively educational – festive atmosphere. The music is homespun,
joyful, sophisticated, and artful. These performances appeal to audiences of all ages and the duo is
also well loved in school settings.
Claudia is a board certified Music Therapist. Her background in this field has given the pair
additional ways to find meaningful community connections and reach a more diverse audience.
For the past four years, Claudia and Dan have been advocating for increased accessibility in
performing arts spaces through sensory friendly presentations. Also known as “relaxed” or “come as
you are,” these performances create conditions that are comfortable for audience members with a
wide range of needs.
